A wanted sex offender was sent back to jail after being caught by a facial recognition camera at the coronation of King Charles.
The 33-old-man, who has not been named, was picked up by one of the cameras operating in a van near Buckingham Palace on 6 May.
An image of his face was captured by the hi-tech cameras and fed into a database that matched a mugshot of a wanted suspect.
This sparked an alert to the Metropolitan Police and the man was immediately arrested and sent back to prison for breaching the terms of his release.
This is the new frontier of technology that should scare us. I’m not as much afraid of government use of facial recognition to find the whereabouts of registrants. They already know who we are and where we are. As long as we’re following the law and not running from the law (like the man in this article), the government’s interest normally ends there. But now we have private citizens who can get a hold of this software and take photos out in public. With facial recognition, a registrant can now be outed by some Karen who lives in Italy (yes, they have Italian Karens) France or any other place in the world. Increasingly, we’re losing the capability to remain anonymous
Evidently this man was where he was not supposed to be. Frankly I don’t care for King Charles and all the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal family, but if you’re going to break the law, be prepared to get caught. He should have watched the event at home on television. No one likes to be spied on by the government, but in this case, they’re only interested in lawbreakers.
The DMV puts millions of images into the FBI facial recognition database everyday BUT people forced to register, are put in a special database just for sex offenders.
Back in 2004 I got into A heated argument with A liquor store clerk, I guess he called the cops and said I threaten to kill him or some shiiit,
1 years later I’m driving home from work I get stop by a cop who informs me that I have a warrant for my arrest out of Orange County for “Terrorist Threats”
when I finally got to court my public defender was able to get the case thrown out,There was no audio just a video that showed us exchanging words and me walking out the store.
When it was all said and done, I asked her how the hell did they even find me, She said “Facial Recognition”
